Starting in 2026, medical bills in Switzerland will include several changes. A sheet with QR codes will now always be part of the reimbursement document. These QR codes contain the full bill in electronic form and are intended for health insurers, not for patients, to speed up processing and checks.
In addition, patients will often receive a simplified summary of services, listing the main treatments in a clearer and more understandable way. However, it may take some time before all medical practices provide this summary. Due to the new medical tariff Tardoc, some services will also be named differently.

The QR-code sheet is especially important for people who pay medical bills upfront and then submit them to their insurer. It must now always be included, as reimbursement requests may otherwise be delayed or rejected.
Overall, these changes aim to make medical bills easier to understand and review. If anything seems incorrect, patients can contact their doctor, hospital, or health insurer. Insurers review every bill and save billions of Swiss francs each year by identifying unjustified costs.
